ED Procedures: new site and new courses!

ACEM’s CPD system includes procedural requirements for FACEMs, and in this age of KPI’s/NEAT targets, with queues of RMO’s and Registrars keen for procedures, and the incessantly ringing access line/AO phone and steadily increasing ED demand, a lot of us are struggling to meet our procedural CPD requirements. So George Douros and I have started the FACEM Critical Procedures Course, and a new site, ED Procedures, as compendium of FOAMed procedures for ED docs.

The FACEM Critical Procedures Course will allow FACEMs to knock off their triennial procedural CPD requirements in one day, and it is also open senior registrars/advanced trainees who want to up-skill before the fellowship exam or who may be close to taking the floor as a new consultant.

In the course we cover critical airway, breathing and circulation core procedures, with a focus on modern, safe approaches to procedures such as standard intubation, difficult airways, chest decompression and various methods of intercostal catheter insertion, difficult ventilation and ventilator management, and large bore IV access/rapid infuser catheter (RIC line) and intra-osseous needle insertion. We also cover a range of common “Scope Of Practice” procedures.

This course will be of great use to those registrars facing the new ACEM Fellowship Exam OSCE, new FACEMs, and even seasoned veterans who want a refresher! (See the testimonials from our trial courses here)

For more details including cost, dates and location head over to the course information page.

The ED Procedures Blog is new and will steadily grow to become a searchable, quick-reference site for those who want to learn about emergency department procedures, and for those who need a quick refresher on the floor at work.

We are also working on Junior Doctors Procedures Course modules, which will cover a range of procedures for doctors in training. This will be of use to those working in the ED, as well as ward rotations.  If this sounds like something you’d be interested in, drop us a line via the contact page).

We look forward to seeing you at a course soon!
